Experiment Development for Undergraduate Organic Chemistry Laboratories
Ahmed Ali, Jack Duff, Heather Bishop
Abstract
The modification of a laboratory experiment to produce better results both quantitatively and qualitatively is beneficial to both students learning from the modified exercise and the modifier of the exercise himself. In order to modify an experiment, the modifier has to completely understand the laboratory techniques and concepts learned within the exercise and use his or her own innovation to change the exercise to produce better results. The student modifier of the exercise gains experience in lesson planning, sharpens laboratory skills, and learns scientific communication through the writing of the procedure.
